Belize
This small central American country has one of the largest reef systems in the world with some great diving year round.
During December the temperatures are very comfortable and visibility is great. The marine life runs through the whole range, from whale sharks to tiny shrimp, not forgetting one of the most famous dive sites in the world – the Blue Hole.
The highlight of December though has to be the spawning of the groupers during the full moon phase in December and January. Glovers reef is where the Nassau groupers congregate for this amazing event when a circling column of metre-long fish can be seen rising from the seabed to the surface.
Join a liveaboard to explore the area and this once in a lifetime event.

Philippines
The Philippines is as diverse as its 7,000-plus islands would suggest and now is a great time to explore the World War II wrecks in Coron or the fantastic muck diving or thresher sharks of the Visayans.

With the weather turning cooler, the sharks are more prevalent in the water. Look for oceanic whitetips and hammerheads which enjoy the lower temperatures out in the blue.

Galapagos
Diving in Galapagos at any time of year is amazing but December is the time when many green turtles gather to lay eggs on its shores after the mating occurs. Marine life is abundant, with hammerheads, silky and Galapagos sharks having a starring role, but also be on the lookout for dolphins, manta rays, tiger sharks, sea lions and even orcas.

Maldives
December is a great month to dive in the Maldives as it is the end of the monsoon, leading to the start of the calm season. Each Atoll here is unique with its own special character and marine life.
Ari and Baa are renowned for the whale sharks and manta rays. Hanifaru Bay is still in peak season for snorkelling with these fantastic creatures.
The deep south though is also a great choice; these remote atolls have a wealth of pelagic life with silkies, tiger sharks and hammerheads just to name a few. The remote nature of the islands means it is uncrowded and has pristine reefs, but do note that the currents can run fast here so experience is needed. The Atolls of Vaavu, Meemu, Thaa, Laamu, Huvadhoo and Addu are all an option at this time.

Myanmar
The unspoilt reef and uncrowded sites of Myanmar are in the high season for December with warm water and great visibility. The variety between the larger pelagic and macro finds makes a liveaboard cruise here a highlight.
